Bee Facts:

1. Honeybees collect pollen in the pollen baskets, located on the hind tibia aka back legs
2. During the height of the summer, a hive can contain up to 100,000 honeybees.
3. Bees use wax to cap the cells containing honey. This prevents fermentation
4. The honeybee’s small size enables it to pollinate flowers of all shapes and sizes.
5. Bees see only a few colors, including yellow and are attracted to yellow flowers.
6. It takes 1 million flower visit to create 1 lb of honey…yes 1 million
7. A worker bee produces 1/12 Teaspoon of honey throughout her lifetime
8. Honeybees wings beat 11,400 times per minute, producing their distinctive buzzing sound.
9. There are over 20,000 types of bees found in the world on every continent except Antarctica.
